If you are prompted to change your password when working from home or outside of a state building, the following best practices are recommended to sync your new password throughout state resources, programs, and your computer login.
- Click “Skip” on the reminder prompt to change your password (this will only be allowed a few times so the recommendation is to change it as soon as prompted).
- Connect to the VPN. Enter your current credentials (your password is not changed yet) and RSA code if applicable. Remain on the VPN during this process.
- Go to id.utah.gov from your browser.
- Login with your email address and password if prompted to.
- Click on Change Password on the left, and enter your current password in the “current password” field to the right.
- Click on “Next”.
- Type your new password in the “New Password” field.
- A list of DTS password requirements are shown below the “New Password” field.
- Confirm your new password by re-typing your new password in the “Confirm New Password” field.
- Click on Save.
- Your password is changed when you see the image below.
- Lock your workstation by pressing ctrl+alt+del on the keyboard and then selecting “Lock” from the list. Remain on the VPN during this process. Leave it locked for approximately 1 to 2 minutes. This should allow your new password to sync with your computer and other state resources, programs, and websites.
- Unlock your workstation by pressing ctrl+alt+del and then log back in with your new password. Once completed, your new password should be cached and you should be logging into your computer and other state resources with the same password. (Note: certain programs have unique passwords.)
- If your computer still takes your old password at the first login, disconnect from VPN, reconnect, and repeat steps 11 and 12.
- If your computer will not update to the new password at the initial login, please call the help desk – see list here. Please do not restart your computer before calling.
