How to Reset Your Password If Your Account Is Locked
If your account is locked because the password was typed incorrectly (e.g., you used the wrong case several times while typing in your password), take the following steps.

Click Switch User and then select Self-Service Password Reset.

Type in your username and the correct password. After about two full minutes, both UMD and AD accounts will be unlocked without additional user intervention.

Log off of the mini portal, click Switch User, select your user account, and log on.

If you are still unable to log in, follow the instructions below to reset your password.

How to Reset Your Password if you KNOW your Current Password

Go to the Utah ID homepage and log in to your account.

Enter your code for the two factor security on your account and click continue
Click Security on the left and then scroll down and select “Change your password”
Type in your current password and click Next.
Then type a new password, confirm the password and select Save.
If You DO NOT KNOW Your Current Password

Press Ctrl+Alt+Delete and click Switch User. Select Self-Service Password Reset

If you already logged into your machine, open a browser and go to login.utah.gov

Click Forgot Password?

Fill out the information requested.
- Enter your Utah ID username or email address.
- Enter your last name. Click Continue

Depending on what two factor security you set up in your UtahID account, you may have different options regarding where/how you would like to receive a security code to proceed with resetting your password.

When you select one of the contact methods, you’ll be directed to confirm the contact information. Confirm the contact information and click Continue.

If you selected an email address, the security code will be sent to the email address; if you selected a phone number, the security code will be sent to the phone number via text. Retrieve your security code from the appropriate email or text message, and once you receive the security code, type it in and click Continue. This will take you to the password reset screen.

Type in your new password and click Continue.
Passwords must be at least 8 characters long and must include at least one character from at least three of the four following character sets:
- uppercase letters,
- lowercase letters,
- numbers, and
- special characters.

You have now completed resetting your password.
For Teleworkers
NOTE: If you are teleworking do not forget to sync your new password to your local machine. Make sure you are logged into the VPN with your new password. Lock your windows machine. Unlock with the new password you just created. This will update your password on your PC.
