New Department of Government Operations, and DTS, Websites Coming Soon
Now that we have been a part of the new Department of Government Operations for a full year, we will be working together as a department to create new websites. This means DTS will be getting a new website. We will be working with a consultant in the coming months to help organize and design the new site. We are excited to find new and better ways to provide information to DTS employees, our customers, and all of our stakeholders. More information will be coming soon.
Data Privacy Management Program
All state agencies have a requirement to protect the constitutional right of privacy in relation to personal data gathered by government entities. To support state agency privacy maturity efforts and better prepare agencies for future privacy practice assessments, the Department of Government Operations Privacy Officer will be providing all state agencies the opportunity to have at least one individual trained and certified as a Certified Information Privacy Manager through the International Association of Privacy Professionals.
Each participant will receive two full days of instructor-led training, textbooks, participants guides, sample test questions and exam vouchers. This training and certification will ensure your agency
has someone with the knowledge, skills and abilities that knows:
● How to create an agency privacy vision
● How to structure the agency privacy team
● How to develop and implement an agency privacy program framework
● How to communicate to agency stakeholders
● How to measure privacy performance
● The privacy program operational life cycle
Every State Agency is being asked to:
● Designate one or more people as privacy officers,
● Have at least one individual attend the training, and
● Have at least one individual obtain CIPM certification.
Agencies that complete the above three actions will be better prepared to implement and their agency privacy programs and will be included in the required annual Judiciary Interim
Committee privacy report as having met minimum expectations for privacy practices related to designating individuals with privacy roles and responsibilities within your agency.
The first training session is scheduled for June 21-22, 2022 from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM.

Data Center Exit Project – May Update
We are heading down the home stretch on the data center exit project. This is the top priority for DTS and we are making steady improvements every day, including some major accomplishments over the past few weeks.
We successfully migrated the state phone system and call centers, the mainframe, the print center, the automated firewall system, the application load balancer, and the majority of state building network connections to the Taylorsville data center.
We continue to move production and database servers, which house all state systems and applications, to Taylorsville. We have successfully moved 415 servers to date. We will continue to move the remainder by the end of the month. We do not anticipate any down time or impact to the applications during these migrations.
We have completed approximately 76% of the server and system migrations as part of the data center exit. The Department of Natural Resources has completed 98% of server moves, and the Governor’s Office has completed 96% of server moves.
Important Next Step: On May 21 at 5:00 a.m., we will be migrating the state internet connection from the Salt Lake data center to the Taylorsville data center. We have worked to minimize the impact, but there will be outages to the state internet connection. Applications, computers connecting to the internet, state websites, phones, call centers, and anything else connecting to the state internet will be down for a short time. We estimate the internet outage to last approximately 10 minutes.

Data Center Exit Project – April Update
We are continuing to move forward with the data center exit project. This is the top priority for DTS and we are making steady improvements every day, including some major accomplishments last week.
We successfully migrated the network from Salt Lake to Taylorsville over the weekend. This was a big milestone in the Data Center Exit project. We migrated 23 network firewalls from the Salt Lake data center to the Taylorsville data center. Thank you for your patience with outages during the migrations, and your willingness to help us test systems.
We can now begin to move production servers, which house all state systems and applications, to Taylorsville starting today. We will also begin moving all databases to the Taylorsville facility beginning later in the week. We do not anticipate any down time or impact to the applications during these migrations.
The effort to move the network locations at the Agency Buildings to point to the Taylorsville data center instead of the Salt Lake data center is continuing successfully. Some building locations will experience an estimated 20 minutes of network downtime during the scheduled move. Your IT Director will notify you of the schedule if your location is impacted by this move.
We have completed nearly 50% of the server and system migrations as part of the data center exit. Some accomplishments include:
- Completing all of the development and test server moves to Taylorsville/Richfield data center
- Completed all development and test Oracle servers to Richfield data center
- Highlighting some department successes: The Department of Human Services completed 71% of server moves, and the Labor Commission has completed 61% of server moves
You can see the current project status, progress, and timeline at https://dts.utah.gov/data-center-exit-project. Please contact your IT Director with any questions. We will continue to coordinate with you closely throughout this important project. Thank you for your continued support.
