Research and Analysis Reports

Research summary and analysis reports are prepared upon request from DTS management and upon approval by the Chief Technology Officer (CTO). These reports synthesize the most current information in requested technology areas and apply the technology to specified business and technology issues identified by the State. Reports typically draw from a broad range of technology resources and make every effort to reflect divergent opinions and approaches to technology implementation. All reports are provided in Adobe PDF format.

Research Summary

  • Enterprise Architecture (EA) Frameworks (July 2007; Not Released)
    The EA framework document reviews major Enterprise Architecture (EA) frameworks that are available for use by the State, and makes recommendations for specific EA framework adoption and customization to meet the needs of the State for an effective EA framework.
  • Enterprise Budget Preparation Systems(March 5, 2007)
    This document was prepared as an alternative analysis report for enterprise budget preparation alternatives that could be considered for replacement of the existing State Budget Prep application.
  • Enterprise Calendar Applications(January 17, 2007)
    This research report was prepared in response to a request for information on enterprise calendar systems and as a research basis for implementation of the public meeting calendar as required by the 2007 session of the Utah Legislature.
  • Enterprise Content Management Systems (ECM)(January 4, 2007)
    This research report was prepared in response to a request for information on enterprise document management systems which are now most generally marketed and packaged as a component of an enterprise content management (ECM) solution.
  • Enterprise Information Portal EIP(April 19, 2007)
    This report was prepared as an alternative analysis review prior to development of the Enterprise Self Service Gateway (ESSG) as a portal for State of Utah employee access to key information on employment and benefits.
  • Enterprise Service Bus (ESB): Product Evaluation Comparisons(October 18, 2006)
    This document includes a description of the architecture and benefits of an Enterprise Service Bus as a key component of the State service oriented architecture. The report compares open source and commercially available ESB offerings.
