Western Governors Association Annual Meeting
The Western Governors Association Annual Meeting was held in Park City from June 14-16. The Western Governors Association is comprised of the Governors of Colorado, Idaho, Montana, Nebraska, New Mexico, Oregon, South Dakota, Wyoming, and Utah. The Governors focused on developing regional and global strategies for addressing the intertwined issues of energy, climate change and water. DTS was instrumental in providing technical support for the Meeting. The DTS employees that were involved performed an outstanding job and contributed to a very successful meeting. DTS provided the following:
- 5 station internet cafés with a printer
- 3 station office environments with a printer for the WGA staff
- Video recording and webcast of all sessions
- Print server to allow attendees to easily install the printer located in the internet café to their personal devices
This was a great experience for all those involved. We were able to utilize skills of many DTS staff to make this a success, including:
- Michael Hussey’s knowledge and skill was very helpful in the planning and implementation of the technical support for the meeting. Mike setup and configured the print server, helped with the setup of the WGA office and the internet cafe. Mike also operated one of the cameras for the video during the sessions.
- Terry Davis organized a screen saver slide show for the PCs with Utah scenic picture provided by the Travel Council. He also created background images with the appropriate branding. Terry organized the video capture and webcast. Terry operated one of the video cameras during all the sessions.
- Paul Gedge helped with the audio/video production. Paul’s expertise was incredibly helpful with smooth transitions for the webcast between PowerPoint presentations and the live video.
- Tina West configured all the laptops and helped locate other needed equipment.
- Jill Berman and Lisa Sato helped with the setup and tear down of the WGA office and Internet Café. They were also our standby staff in case we needed additional help during the conference.
- Sean Chadbourn helped with the setup and tear down of the WGA office and Internet Café. Sean also provided technical assistance for the internet café on Monday and Tuesday.
- Curtis Parker provided USB thumb drives for the attendees. Curtis created a batch file to automate the copy of a video to the drives.
- Scott Wunderlich helped copy the video files to the thumb drives and provided help with loading and unloading equipment.
- Eva Cornish helped copy the video files to the thumb drives.
- Corona Ngatuvai was able to purchase some awesome printers that would be needed for the Health Department after the conference.
- Sharon Thomas was instrumental in the procurement of the printers.
- Adam Sorenson assisted with the print server/printer installation.
- Russell Smith allowed us to use laptops that belong to the training center for the WGA office and the Internet Café.
- Tracy Goble and was able to get access to the photos used for the screen savers and the background images.
- Cindy Hardman coordinated all efforts for the success of the group.
This was an incredible team effort that went very smoothly with virtually no problems. Thank you for the outstanding service.
Employee Kudos
DTS employees at DPS have recently provided assistance to State Parks and Recreation. We appreciate the excellent customer service.
“On behalf of the Division of Utah State Parks and Recreations and the public we serve, I want to express our sincere appreciation to the Utah Department of Technology Services in assisting the Utah Department of Public Safety and the Utah Highway Patrol in providing our agency with 40 surplus laptop computers.
Our agency is beginning to implement the FATPOT data management system and without your generous support, we would not be able to integrate this program within a mobile environment. Thanks to you, half of our Utah State Park Rangers are now connected into this technology, helping them to be more efficient, effective, and safe in their work.
Specifically, we wish to thank DTS IT Director Philip Bates and his staff who made this possible…
In troubled economic times, it is encouraging to see state agencies assisting one another in this way; saving taxpayer money and protecting public safety.”
-Christopher Quick, Law Enforcement Chief, Utah Division of State Parks and Recreation
