September 27, 2007
The State of Utah’s web portal, utah.gov, was awarded 1st Place in the 2007 Best of The Web competition sponsored by the National Center for Digital Government. The Best of Web is an annual awards program that recognizes the most innovative, user-friendly state and local government portals. This is the original and most popular state government web site competition.
This national awards program judges state, city and county Web sites on their innovation, Web-delivery of public services, efficiency, economy, and functionality for improved citizen access. Utah.gov was also awarded this honor in 2003, making Utah the only state to win the award twice.
“Utah.gov makes state information and services more accessible than ever for citizens, businesses, and visitors,” said Governor Jon Huntsman. “We live in a technology rich state where citizens demand innovation and improvement. This recognition shows our commitment to providing award-winning, cutting-edge resources to businesses and citizens alike.”
“The diversity of resources found on Utah.Gov is staggering,” said Chief Information Officer J. Stephen Fletcher. “And, per capita, Utah’s Web site has the most reach of any state. A higher percentage of Utah’s population goes online to access government information and services than in other states.”
"Utah's site is one of the most robust and citizen-friendly sites in the nation. Not only is it packed full of services for both businesses and citizens, it is also beautifully designed and highly functional," says Cathilea Robinett, executive director of the Center for Digital Government.
In addition to the Best of the Web award, the State of Utah also received top honors in the following categories from the Center for Digital Government:
Government-to-business: The Department of Public Safety’s ValIDate system is a web-based service that allows approved institutions to verify information on Utah-issued Driver Licenses, Driving Privilege Cards, and State Identification Cards. Verification of the card presented to these financial institutions will help prevent and combat identity fraud and theft.
Government-to-citizen State Government: Department of Commerce’s State Construction Registry. An online project "bulletin board" providing full disclosure to property owners, contractors, and other interested parties, of people providing goods and services to a construction project. By providing a centralized resource for project participant information, the Registry helps property owners minimize unknown project liability and risk.![]()
